The beautiful flowers surround this entire home in the front and back; it was such a pleasure to work on this commission piece. I visited the home in Vancouver in late spring and caught the tail-end of the spring-blooms when the purple and pink rhododendrons were out and the clematis growing up the side of the stairs. This is a loved garden and I was honored to capture it for the couple.
One of the most interesting aspects of this commission is that my art practice is acrylic on canvas. However the couple was only familiar with my small watercolor sketchbooks. So their expectations was a watercolor piece. It was fun to scale up my sketchbook work to 10″ x 12″ for this piece. This painting was done on archival arches paper, then matted and framed in white.
I first sketched the garden in-person and shared it with the couple before working on the larger framed piece.
