This past month I completed two commission on canvas. In both projects, the clients shared their photographs & stories with me and I used it to create the paintings.

Mount Baker – Joanne Hastie Commission Painting 2018 – 24″ x 20″ acrylic on canvas

Iceland Glacier – Joanne Hastie Commission Painting 2018 – 48″ x 24″ acrylic on canvas

As a landscape/cityscape painter, I get two types of commissions one is working from a client’s photographs and reference images and the other is being invited to the location to see it with my own eyes and take notes. Both ways require me to understand the perspective of the client and the story behind the importance of the location to them. In most cases it is to remind them of a special special time in their life or memory that they would like to remember. Often the details are not as critical as it is to evoke a memory. I love being able to help people celebrate the moments of their life with a piece or art that can be a daily reminder.
