Sunset over Teatro Greco

Taromina is one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset from. The Greek/Roman ruins date back to the 3rd century BC. How many people over time have experienced this view!

The theater is perched on a cliff edge where one can see both the Ionian Sea to the west and Mount Etna, a live volcano, steaming to the south. Wandering  the ruins one can also see mainland Italy in the northern direction. This spot has so much history, even today as opera and pop stars still host concerts here. The structure is from the Greek era and later revised with brick from the Roman times.

I have had the honour of sitting and sketching here during all my three of my adventures to Sicily. This painting was inspired from my first trip where I witnessed the sunset while doing an art residency in Graniti.
